Grateful for Community Care

To our Canadian friends, Happy Canada Day! And to our American friends, Happy 250th!

No matter how proactive we are about our health and well-being, life can still surprise us with challenges we never saw coming.

If you joined us for our Swing Jazz Cafe on June 6, thank you for your presence and support. Our musicians, led by Zach and Dorothy, made it such a memorable evening.

I haven’t been able to share an update since then because I experienced a medical emergency the very next day that resulted in an unexpected hospitalization. While this season has required me to slow down and focus on recovery, it has also reminded me of the incredible gift of community. Friends visited, brought meals, offered prayers and encouragement, and my sister, Christine, even made her first trip to British Columbia to help care for me. I also had meaningful conversations with fellow patients and healthcare workers who made this difficult time a little brighter.

I am deeply grateful to be surrounded by such a caring community, even so far from my family. Although I’m eager to return to my usual pace, I’m learning to embrace the recovery process one day at a time.

Our family also experienced heartbreaking loss last week with the sudden and still unexplained passing of my cousin in Montreal. Even with loving roommates, close friends and regular communication with family, her death reminds us how fragile life can be and how much remains beyond our understanding.

Jesus reminds us that in this world we will have trouble, but we can take heart because He has overcome the world. As we hold on to Him, look to Him and trust Him, He gives purpose even in our pain. My prayer is that this hope encourages you today, whatever you may be facing.

Our Summer Campaign for Education and Outreach is still underway, and we have $15,000 left to raise to reach our goal.

As part of this effort, we’re excited to host our very first STRIDE 2026: Together, We Move Hope Forward fun run/walk on September 19 at Surrey Bend Regional Park. Muriel Gonzales is leading this event, and we’d love for you to be part of it. Please save the date, invite your family and friends, and register using the link below.

If you’d like to help us reach our summer goal, you can also make a gift by clicking the button below.

Thank you for your continued prayers, encouragement and generous support.

With gratitude,
