Happy Mother’s Day!
Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to honour our mothers who gave birth to us or adopted us, cared for us, and surrounded us with warmth and love. Our mothers’ nourishment continues to give us the inspiration and power to make it in this world.
Happy Mother’s Day to all who serve as a mother in one way or another!
I also want to take this chance to honour my mother, who beyond her 7 children and 7 grandchildren, is a mother to so many in the Philippines and around the world. She was among the academics who went to the best universities in the US and chose to lay down their lives for others in the most remote and uncertain parts of the world.
She left upstate New York and worked as a linguist in Cambodia and Vietnam where she met my father. They continued their work in the midst of the war and bombings around them until all foreigners were told to go home. My father had asked her to be his partner. They got engaged and reunited in the Philippines where they married and embarked on a life of advancing God’s kingdom and building lives. Together, they parent leaders, children, and all ages so they could heal, be empowered to succeed, and reach their God-given potential. To this day, my mom serves as a mother to so many after having founded People of Grace Christian School and continuing to serve as its principal and mentor.
When I visited her in the hospital last spring, instead of focusing on her hip injury and pain, she continued to talk about other youth and their endeavors. She always knew more about the new families in our community. When I asked if she wished that she were in the US for her surgery, she said, “No."
I will never have the words to express how selfless my mother has been and how her sacrifices have been instrumental in the birth of People of Grace international Foundation, which now cares for vulnerable kids and youth around the world.
As you continue to support POGI Foundation, you are also being mothers to them!
